Christmas in September

This is a caricature portrait of my brother Joey, his wife Jennifer, and their granddaughter, Everlee. This was a Christmas gift from Everlee’s mom, Autumn, to Joe and Jennifer.

I got back to basics when drawing these caricatures. Although my drawing tablet has its advantages, using just a primitive pencil and eraser on paper is much more enjoyable. I drew the faces with pencil, scanned them into Photoshop, and then created the rest of the portrait using the drawing tablet.

Would you like to give a caricature portrait to one of your loved ones this Christmas? Let me know what you want and I’ll quote you a price, then you will say, “yes or no”, then we dicker and haggle maybe, and then you say, “yes”. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Get well soon, Albert

This is for my big brother, Albert, as he is recovering from a kidney transplant operation. This is a caricature of his dog, A.J. So listen to A.J. and get well soon!

This art was a simple pencil sketch of A.J.’s face and a very vague, unfinished outline of his body. I then scanned it into Photoshop and painted it.

Autumn: When entire trees turn into flowers.

Ever since I started my new job, I have had to drive many miles to work. As a consequence of this new arrangement, I see more scenery than usual. Lately, the colors on the trees have been teasing me with their vibrant and, let’s face it, rather seductive colors. I felt compelled to record the splashery of color. This is truly one of God’s gifts to humanity.

At first, I had a certain fervor. It drove me to get out a sheet of the big paper and my watercolor paints. I had to record this. To imitate this. To paint this. The watercolor proved to be difficult and sloppy. Should I use color pencil? No. This is a job for Photoshop painting. The ability to cover one color with another proved to be priceless.
